ChoicesAndConsequences

WARNING: This page contains major spoilers

Throughout the course of I Miss the Sunrise, at some points, you will have to make difficult choices with far-reaching consequences. These choices have an immediate effect on Ros' personality, by shifting it in one direction or the other, but there may be other effects of these major choices as well.

Lagarto Desperado's Fate

This choice is optional, and can be made starting at the beginning of episode 2. It revolves around deciding Lagarto's fate -- Ros can choose to either execute him or let him go free.

  • Choice 1: Execution
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Aggressive and Lawful.
    • Immediate consequences: since there is no longer any need to keep a defense force looking after Lagarto, Virgil will compensate Ros with 25,000 half-credits.
    • Other consequences: In episode 4, Thomas will cite this as one of Ros' dangerous behaviors.
  • Choice 2: Mercy
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Conservative and Flexible.
    • Immediate consequences: Marie's personal trust of Ros will increase by 50.
    • Other consequences:
      • In episode 4, Thomas will cite this as one of Ros' dangerous behaviors.
      • In the final mission, Lagarto will destroy two enemy fleets for you.

Deirdre

This choice is optional, and is made after talking to Deirdre at Purity Point for the first time. Ros can choose to let Deirdre onto the Inquiry and turn her into an AUG, thereby making her a permanent outcast from Purity Point, or Ros can let Deirdre stay with her "family".

  • Choice 1: Leave
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Flexible.
    • Immediate consequences: Deirdre will join Ros' crew and start with a personal trust bonus.
    • Other consequences: In episode 4, Thomas will cite this as one of Ros' dangerous behaviors.
  • Choice 2: Stay
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Lawful.
    • Immediate consequences: Deirdre will somehow make it to the Inquiry anyway and will join Ros' crew, though she will start with a personal trust penalty.
    • Other consequences: In episode 4, Thomas will cite this as one of Ros' dangerous behaviors.

Fate of The Black One

This choice is mandatory, and must be made at the beginning of the second mission of episode 3. Ros' crew will find the Black One being attacked by a group of Lessers. Ros can choose to try and help him or leave him to his fate.

  • Choice 1: Help
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Logical and Aggressive.
    • Immediate consequences: You will fight a battle against a Lesser Phaser? and Lesser Bomber?. However, the Black One's ship will explode anyway, and he will die.
    • Other consequences:
      • The cutscene where the Black One transfers his mind into another Lesser and escapes the EROS lab will have changed dialogue reflecting Ros' willingness to help.
      • During the final mission, the Black One will show up a turn early, and will extend the time limit by two turns.
  • Choice 2: Abandonment
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Imaginative and Conservative.
    • Immediate consequences: The Black One's ship will explode, and he will die.
    • Other consequences: The cutscene where the Black One transfers his mind into another Lesser and escapes the EROS lab will have changed dialogue reflecting the fact that Ros allowed the previous body to be destroyed.

Fate of Colony 503b

This choice is mandatory, and is made during the final mission of episode 3. Ros' crew is told to disable the malfunctioning Colony 503b (whose inhabitants are trying to rebel against EROS) by using Pilot-targeting weapons. However, because the inhabitants of the colony are unshielded civilians, this will kill them. The final choice is made in the battle itself -- you must choose to defeat Colony 503b through Pilot damage or one of the other two types.

  • Choice 1: Murder
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Logical and Lawful.
    • Immediate consequences: The cutscene after the mission will change to reflect the crew's decision.
    • Other consequences: In episode 4, Thomas will cite this as one of Ros' dangerous behaviors.
  • Choice 2: Nonlethal Incapacitation
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Imaginative and Flexible.
    • Immediate consequences: The cutscene after the mission will change to reflect the crew's decision.
    • Other consequences:
      • In episode 4, Thomas will cite this as one of Ros' dangerous behaviors.
      • In the final mission, the colonists will destroy two enemy fleets for you.

Fate of the Lesser Colony

This choice is optional, and can be made after discovering the Lesser Habitation. The Lessers there are more educated and less aggressive than those encountered elsewhere. They are also definitely sapient. However, one Lesser talks about imparting their knowledge to other Lessers across the galaxy, thereby making them a more dangerous force. You are given the choice to destroy the facility or leave it alone.

  • Choice 1: Annihilation
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Logical and Aggressive.
    • Immediate consequences: The facility will no longer be accessible.
    • Other consequences: Unknown.
  • Choice 2: Mercy
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Imaginative and Conservative.
    • Immediate consequences: Doctor Burkle will thank you for sparing the facility.
    • Other consequences: If you target the Lessers with the superweapon, Tezkhra will criticize you.

Target of the Superweapon

This choice is mandatory, and is made after taking possession of the prismatic Stardraw weapon array in the fourth mission of episode 4. The strange voice will contact Ros, and allow them to use the weapon interface. Virgil and Willis both scream at him/her not to use it, but s/he does realize that the weapon gives an opportunity to make a great change in the war. The weapon can be turned on one of the warring sides, Typelog or EROS, with the hope that the show of power will coerce the other side to surrender. Humanity's real enemies, the rogues and the Lessers, can also be targeted. Alternatively, the weapon can be dismantled for materials, though of course, this removes its ability to be used as a trump card in case things get worse.

  • Choice 1: Attack Typelog
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Aggressive and Lawful.
    • Immediate consequences: Extra valor and tangible rewards given. The Typelog Superhub can no longer be visited, and Neff's social events cannot be completed.
    • Other consequences:
      • The war will end.
      • Lazarus?' support MODs will be of lower quality.
      • During the final mission, Willis? will destroy two enemy fleets for you.
  • Choice 2: Attack EROS
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Aggressive and Flexible.
    • Immediate consequences: Extra valor and tangible rewards given. The live EROS facility can no longer be visited, and Kara's social events cannot be completed.
    • Other consequences:
      • The war will end.
      • Lazarus?' support MODs will be of lower quality.
      • During the final mission, Ral? will destroy two enemy fleets for you.
  • Choice 3: Attack the Rogues
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Aggressive and Lawful.
    • Immediate consequences: Extra valor given. Marie's social events cannot be completed, and Alicia's Personal Trust bottoms out.
    • Other consequences: Lazarus? will have more powerful support MODs in the battle against him.
  • Choice 4: Attack the Lessers
    • Personality change: Ros will become more Aggressive and Lawful.
    • Immediate consequences: Extra valor given. Daszk's social events cannot be completed.
    • Other consequences: Lazarus? will have more powerful support MODs in the battle against him.
  • Choice 5: Dismantle the Array
    • Personality change: Ros will become much more Conservative and Flexible.
    • Immediate consequences: None. Ros will dismantle the weapon and be taken back to the Inquiry, where s/he will be chewed out and the story will continue.
    • Other consequences: Lazarus? will have more powerful support MODs in the battle against him.

Fate of the Universe

This choice is mandatory, and is made during the final mission of episode 5. During the pre-mission cutscene, the Progenitor? explains his plans to Ros; you are given the opportunity to attack him and foil them as planned, or defect to his side and help him carry them out. To take the former choice, pick the first or second options at any time. To take the latter choice, choose the third conversation option three times. Note: this choice has no effect on Ros' personality.

  • Choice 1: Defiance
    • The normal procedure for the final mission will play out.
    • Ending A will be shown after the mission.
    • You will gain the Optimist Badge and the "sunrise" background for the main menu screen.
  • Choice 2: Compliance
    • The alternate procedure for the final mission will play out.
    • Ending B will be shown after the mission.
    • You will gain the Pessimist Badge and the "void" background for the main menu screen.
